How to check your JAMB result

Method 1: check by SMS

The SMS method is the fastest and works on any phone. No smartphone, no data. At the time of writing, the steps are:

1. Pick up the exact phone number you used to register for JAMB. This is the part most people get wrong. The shortcode matches your number to your registration, so no other line will work.
2. Make sure you have some airtime. The reply costs roughly ₦50 at the time of writing (some networks may charge slightly more, confirm with your network).
3. Type UTMERESULT. One word, all capital letters, no spaces, nothing else in the message.
4. Send it to 55019 or 66019. Both are JAMB's official shortcodes and they work across the major Nigerian networks.
5. Wait for the reply. It usually arrives within minutes, though it can take longer when millions of candidates are checking at once.

If the reply doesn't come, the usual culprits are: no airtime, a typo (lowercase letters or an added space), texting from a different SIM, or your result batch simply not being released yet. JAMB releases results in batches, often keyed to the day you sat the exam, so a classmate seeing their result before you see yours is normal, not a bad sign.

Method 2: the e-Facility portal

If your registered SIM is lost, or you want to see the result on a bigger screen, use JAMB's portal:

1. Go to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, type the address yourself rather than following links from strangers.
2. Sign in with the email address and password you created during registration.
3. Open the results section (labelled along the lines of "Check UTME Results") and your score appears with the per-subject breakdown.

Forgotten the password? Use the password-reset option on the portal itself, tied to your registered email. Do not hand your email and password to a café attendant or "agent" to do it for you, anyone with those two details controls your entire admission profile.

Only ever type your JAMB password into efacility.jamb.gov.ng. Not into another website, not into a WhatsApp chat, not into any app, including ours. JAMB Pro will never ask for it, because no legitimate third party needs it.

What the result actually shows

Your UTME result is four subject scores and a total. The exam is 180 questions marked out of 400, Use of English (60 questions) plus three subjects of 40 questions each, every question worth about 2.22 marks with no negative marking. The result you receive shows:

• Your name and registration number, check these carefully against your slip.
• A score for each of your four subjects, so you can see exactly where marks were won and lost.
• Your aggregate out of 400. The number institutions use.

That per-subject breakdown is worth studying for a minute, not just the total. It tells you whether one weak subject dragged the aggregate down, which matters a lot if you end up planning a resit.

Printing the result slip (and why it matters)

The SMS and the on-screen result tell you your score. For admission, institutions typically ask for the original result slip, the printed version with your photograph, during post-UTME screening and registration. To get it:

1. Sign in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
2. Find the Print Result Slip option (JAMB enables it some time after results are released).
3. Pay the processing fee, about ₦1,500 via Remita at the time of writing; confirm the current amount on the portal before paying.
4. Download and print. Keep both a digital copy and a couple of physical copies safe; you will be asked for it more than once.

Pay only through the payment channel inside the official portal. Anyone offering to "print your original slip cheaper" outside it is either reselling the same thing with a markup or phishing for your login.

Troubleshooting: "result not found" and friends

• "Result not found" by SMS. Usually a batch issue, wait 24–48 hours and resend. Also re-check the message format and that you're on the registered SIM.
• Result withheld or "under review". JAMB withholds some results pending checks (biometric mismatches, suspected malpractice, centre issues). Nobody outside JAMB can release it, follow up through JAMB's official support ticketing system, linked from jamb.gov.ng, or a JAMB state office.
• Lost or changed phone number. The portal method doesn't need your SIM at all. For issues that require the registered line, JAMB's support ticket system handles phone-number complaints.
• Portal login problems. Reset the password via your registered email. If the email itself is inaccessible, that too goes through official JAMB support, not a third party.

Result-checking scams to avoid

Result season is peak season for scammers, and they all rely on one thing: your credentials or your money moving through them instead of JAMB. The rules that keep you safe are short:

• Never give anyone your JAMB portal password, or your registration number and password together. Not a website, not an agent, not an app.
• There is no such thing as "score upgrading". Anyone offering to raise your result for a fee is lying; they'll take the money, or worse, take over your profile. Reports of "upgraded" results are either fakes shown to you as screenshots or outright fraud.
• Ignore unofficial "result checker" sites. Only JAMB's shortcodes and efacility.jamb.gov.ng carry your result. Third-party sites that ask you to type in your details are harvesting them.
• No payment is required just to see your score. Beyond the small SMS airtime charge, checking is free. Fees apply only to official services like slip printing, paid inside the portal.

What to do next, whatever the score

If the score is strong: relax, then get practical. Check your chosen institution's admission requirements. The national minimum cut-off JAMB announces is a floor, and most institutions and competitive courses set their own, higher marks. Watch for your school's post-UTME screening announcement, and have your result slip ready.
